DC Metro
DC Metro's antiquidated system. I think this was L'Enfant station. Stations are spacious and airy which is about the only good trait. Line changes are NOT cross platform changes! You have have to change levels within the station for a line change!!! There is no cell reception underground except for Verizon. The inside of the trains are old, antiquidated, dirty, and many are in need of repair. Aside from the operators voice broadcast, there is no way to tell what station you have arrived at (or going to arrive at) without looking out the window. There is no notification other thant the train operator broadcast of which side the doors will open. Most of the time the speakers are marginally functional. they really need to update the system to modern standards and to have better information systems inside the train. they really need to have standardized recorded broadcasts.

WASHINGTON, DC Metro Operator Asleep At The Controls
Teen: Video Shows Metro Operator Asleep FOX 5 Exclusive: Train Operator Caught on Tape WASHINGTON, DC - A 14-year-old Metro passenger captured stunning footage on the Green Line in Maryland. Gregory Thomas said he was riding the line June 18 and witnessed the train operator asleep at the controls. With his mother's permission, Gregory spoke exclusively with FOX 5's Will Thomas. "At firs More..t he's dozing off then, he's not in a full sleep. I see him start to doze off and his head going limp," Thomas said. FOX 5 provided Metro officials with the video clip and they confirm the incident is already under review and it is still not clear exactly what the operator was doing. The teenager sent his video to Metro's Customer Service Department June 23, the day after the deadly Red Line Metro crash. Thomas said it was a wake up call. "They need to review their drivers and give them better training," Thomas told FOX 5. Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkibel commended the teen and encouraged other passengers to come forward as well. "We want to know exactly what's going on. If people see something they don't feel is safe please let us know," Taubenkibel said. This exclusive footage surfaces in the same week another passenger's video made headlines. In the other case, a train operator was disciplined after the footage showed him texting while his train was speeding along the Blue Line tracks June 5. Metro said the operator confessed.

Coming from Iran, I wondered what Siavash must think of riding on the Subway. Or maybe this is just a product of my fascination with public transportation and the "human factory" ambience of the DC subway. The footage is all shot in the DC subway and the track is from Dieselboy's projectHuman.

Washington DC Metro Rail.
A Easter trip to washington DC, April 2010. Metrorail, commonly called Metro, is the rapid transit system in Washington, DC, United States, and its surrounding suburbs. It is administered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which also operates Metrobus service under the Metro name. In Maryland, Metro provides service to Montgomery County and Prince George's County; in Virginia, to Fairfax County, Arlington County, and the City of Alexandria. Since opening in 1976, the network has grown to include five lines, 86 stations, and 106.3 miles (171.1 km) of track. Metro is the second-busiest rapid transit system in the United States in number of passenger trips, after the New York City Subway. There were 215.3 million trips, or 727684 trips per weekday, on Metrorail in fiscal year 2008. In June 2008, Metro set a new monthly ridership record with 19729641 trips, or 798456 per weekday. Fares vary based on the distance traveled and the time of day. Riders enter and exit the system using a stored-value card in the form of a paper magnetic stripe farecard or a proximity card known as SmarTrip. Metro stations were designed by Chicago architect Harry Weese, and are examples of late-20th century modern architecture. With their heavy use of exposed concrete and repetitive design motifs, Metro stations also display aspects of brutalist design. In 2007, the design of the Metro's vaulted-ceiling stations was voted number 106 on the American Institute of Architects ...
